Around €4.63bn in revenue from the toll for heavy goods vehicles was estimated for 2016 in the federal budget 2016, which were realised to nearly 100%.
Revenues of €4.66bn are projected for 2017, of which around €1.45bn are planned to be spent in connection with the collection of tolls for heavy goods vehicles (system costs in a narrow sense and so-called harmonisation measures). Furthermore, a deduction at source due to an agreement with the Federal Ministry of Finance for the purpose of compensating vehicle tax shortfalls amounting to €150m must be taken into account. It can therefore be expected that around €3.2bn of the toll for heavy goods vehicles (excluding toll from previous years) can be spent directly for federal highways in 2017.
Since 2016, VIFG has been outline the total spending on federal highways and toll revenue over the course of the year. As no distinction is made between conventionally financed spending for federal highways and toll-financed spending for the federal highway during the year, there is thus no distinction in the spending for federal highways with regards to the source of funding.
